Review

Wow. Where to begin. This has to be the most overrated movie in recent memory. I didn’t like the whimsical tone . . .a guy is stranded on Mars so let’s make it a light hearted drama. The book has this tone also. As if it was written by a friend of Paris Hilton on her Facebook feed. It even has OMG’s in there.

Because of this whimsical tone there is never any sense of threat or urgency; if the characters are not treating it seriously why should I? He’ll be o.k in the end.

Not sure why Matt Damon is nominated for this when Idris Elba and Steve Carell are not. Maybe because they didn’t lose weight or grow their hair? I like Damon but his performance is nothing special . . .maybe he actually grew the potatoes.

And finally, Ridley Scott to me is the Geordie Michael Bay. I’m not a fan of Scott Post Blade Runner. His movies are passable but entirely forgettable. More style than substance.

2h 24 run time. 2h 24 too long.
